a glass tower disappearing into fog at blue hour, embankment lamps doubled in the water below
a twin-towered lutheran church in low sun, people sitting on the steps under the arched entrance
the same church seen through branches, an angel holding a cross on the pediment between the towers
there is a swimming pool under this one. long story
a green facade with white columns, a verse painted above the door and a bilingual russian and finnish plaque below it
a yellow church with a green dome set back from a busy avenue, book stalls along its forecourt
the book stalls are the real attraction
an art nouveau corner building with a dark conical turret, an ornate lamp post in front of it
a white marble group on a granite pedestal in a park, evening sun catching the leaves behind it
a dirt path under a willow at dusk, the last orange light showing through the treeline
birches and long grass in a park after sunset, a pond lying flat behind them
a gravel path curving past a single lamp post, mown grass on both sides under a grey sky
linden branches hanging over a road at dusk, a long curved apartment block behind them
fog lying flat across the gulf at dusk, the far shore's towers only just breaking through it
it came in over about twenty minutes

a day that started on nevsky and ended at the water. three churches inside ten
minutes of walking — lutheran, finnish, catholic — which says more about this
street than anything i could write about it.

then a park until it got dark, and then the gulf, where the fog arrived while i
was standing there and took the far shore away a piece at a time. the tower went
last.
